How much does advertising influence me?
I only pay attention to ads as cultural artifacts so they don't really influence me much directly. BUT, ads influence our culture and pervade our lives. Advertising gives us language, things to think about, and supposed "solutions" to life's problems. Indirectly, ads influence us all through the culture. Wouldn't it be great if we had more ads like the "God billboards" that were popular in some places in the U.S. a few years ago. If ads for God, Christ, and the Bible could become an influence on our culture the same way as ads for McDonald's and PlayStation, we would definitely be on the upswing.
