Do I humanize God?
Yes, I hope so! But more importantly, the anthropomorphic language of Scripture and the Incarnation of God the Son teaches me that God humanizes God. While sin fractures, defiles, and perverts the image of God, there is nothing intrinsically wrong with being human; otherwise, there would be no Christmas story and without Christmas, there would not be a Good Friday, and without Good Friday, there is no Resurrection Sunday. I believe this is the key to unlock our understanding of what it means to be made in the image of God, why God makes such a big deal out of sin, why Jesus had to die, and is so doing, show us why the gospel of grace is so amazingly wonderful.
