Dear Fred
Can I smoke and still be saved?
Fred's Response
Take encouragement in the fact that the great preacher Charles Haddon Spurgeon smoked cigars and when told that he was told that he smoked to excess he said, "No, excess would be smoking two at once." My theology means "when you become a Christian, you become a member of God's family and nothing can take you away from Him." I think this is the scriptural position. The ancient saint, Fenelon, says that sometimes God will leave a sin in our lives to keep us humble. I think smoking is a health question, not a theological one. I prefer not to smoke. If not smoking were an evidence of salvation it would be mentioned in the scripture. Don't let anybody doubt your salvation because of smoking.
