Dear Fred
I've been witnessing to a co-worker. Recently he said," If Jesus wants me to believe in him, He would be on earth for me to see Him." He can't get past believing in a savior that died 2000 years ago. What would you say?
Fred's Response
Not only did He die 2000 years ago, but three days later He was resurrected and is alive today! It would be arrogant for me to think that the God of creation would reveal Himself exclusively to me. Remember, Thomas said, "Unless I see and feel His hands I will not believe." Christ offered him the chance but evidently His presence was all the convincing that Thomas needed. I doubt that your friend is doing anything but rationalizing his lack of desire to believe. The scripture also pronounces an added blessing on those who believe without having seen. Faith pleases God. Paul prayed that God would open the eyes of the Ephesians. You, too, can pray that the Holy Spirit would enlighten your friend.
