Need help with question you posed in your weekly thought about measuring results. I'm in grounds/landscape management and results can be hard to quantify and most results can be subjective (beauty is in the eye of the beholder). Any suggestions on how to measure results where concrete, measurable criteria is slim?

Congratulations on your search for excellence. I have not been in your business, but I can share a few thoughts of how I would do it if I were. I would take the best job I felt that I had ever done and give it a 10. And then I would rate every job I did in relation to that hoping to have other 10s. Then I would keep a close check on how much of my business came from satisfied referrals including repeat business. I would also pick neighborhoods and try to get as many customers in that neighborhood referring to the fact that I am working in that neighborhood. This would make the neighbors appraise the work with the previous customer. In a more subtle way, I would see how quickly my bill was paid.
