Dear Fred

I have a friend who says once we pray about something, we need not pray about it again. What's your response?

Fred's Response

In my mind your question needs to be separated into two parts. First, if you are praying to ask forgiveness and to demonstrate repentance for sin then once is enough. To repeatedly return to the same sin asking for God's forgiveness is lack of faith in His character. So, on the one hand, praying and asking once is enough. However, there are other situations that I firmly believe require continued and constant prayer. The Bible seems to indicate that perseverance in prayer is acceptable and desirable. I have prayed everyday for the salvation of one person --- and will continue until I go home. I have always thought prayer was a method for me to get in touch and in line with God's thinking, not my way of influencing His operation. Thanks for asking and bless.
