How should a Christian respond to a person who uses textual criticism to say the Bible is a human book that has been distorted by scribes to support the churches doctrines at that time in history?

When I was a young man I did not want to accept the bible as the authentic word of God but when I got honest with myself, the only parts I did not like where the parts I did not want to obey. Ultimately, I think much of the so-called scriptural disagreement is a desire to escape judgment. It is well known that Billy Graham received his spiritual power when he told God he would accept the bible as His word whether he understood it or not. It is common among intellectuals to refuse anything they cannot fully understand. They want knowledge instead of faith and without faith we cannot please God.
